KAMPALA — Police have arrested another suspect in connection with the killing of professional rugby player Sydney Gongodyo, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to eleven as investigations into the deadly incident intensify.
The latest suspect, identified as Henry Kabugo, 21, a boda boda rider and resident of Old Kira–Kisenyi, was apprehended in Wandegeya, Kampala, during a joint operation conducted by Kira Road Police and boda boda leaders from Nakawa Division.
According to investigators, Kabugo was identified through video footage allegedly captured during the June 5, 2026 incident.
Police say the footage shows a man believed to be the suspect wearing a blue reflective jacket and covering his face with a black hood while at the scene.
Authorities believe the arrest marks another significant breakthrough in the ongoing probe into the circumstances surrounding Gongodyo’s death, which has drawn widespread public attention and condemnation.
Police officials commended members of the boda boda community for their cooperation and assistance in identifying and tracking down suspects linked to the case.
Investigators say community involvement has played a crucial role in advancing the inquiry.
With eleven suspects now in custody, detectives continue to pursue other individuals believed to have participated in the alleged mob attack.
The police says efforts to identify, trace, and arrest additional suspects remain ongoing to ensure all those involved in the killing are held accountable through the judicial process.
