KAMPALA, Uganda (UGNEWSLINE) – A 70-year-old special-hire driver has died after he was allegedly stabbed during an incident in Nateete, Kampala, with police holding a 19-year-old man in connection with the death.
Thomas Batiibwe Twase, a resident of Bulaga Zone B in Wakiso District, was found inside a vehicle in Central A, Nateete, on Wednesday evening, according to preliminary police information.
Police said the suspect, identified as Sinan Muwonge, allegedly attacked Twase with a knife at about 6:30pm on 30 September before fleeing the scene.
Members of the public later apprehended the suspect and handed him over to police, according to authorities.
Twase was taken to Rubaga Hospital for treatment but was later pronounced dead.
Police said the two men were both operating as special-hire drivers in the same area of Central A, Nateete, although the circumstances that led to the alleged stabbing remain under investigation.
“Police are continuing with investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,” said Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala.
Sinan remains in police custody as investigators work to establish what happened before the alleged attack and the events that followed.
