As Uganda gears up for the 2026 general elections, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi has toured the West Nile region, rallying voters to support him in a bid to end corruption in the country.
Addressing supporters in Alibo Sub-County, Madi-Okolo District, Mafabi positioned himself as the candidate uniquely equipped to tackle Uganda’s persistent corruption challenges.
“Where we have reached, President Museveni has acknowledged corruption but has failed to stop it. Instead, he protects those implicated in the vice,” Mafabi said, citing the halted trials of ministers involved in the Karamoja iron sheets scandal.
“I, Nandala Mafabi, am asking for your mandate to fight these people and stop them from stealing our country. You have a choice: continue the status quo or embrace real change.”
The veteran MP, who has represented Budadiri West in Sironko District for 25 years, emphasized his extensive experience as a key qualification for leading Uganda.
“Among the eight presidential candidates, I am the most qualified, most experienced, and most educated. I understand what needs to be done,” he said. “I am a farmer, a teacher, a lawyer, an accountant, an auditor, and a tax expert. I have served in parliament for 25 years. I know how to steer this country forward.”
Mafabi’s campaign in Madi-Okolo reflects his broader strategy of connecting with voters across Northern Uganda, promising to tackle corruption and deliver accountable leadership if elected president.
Mafabi will be facing off incumbent and NRM flag bearer Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, facing seven challengers: Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (National Unity Platform), Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Gregory Mugisha Muntu (Alliance for National Transformation), Mubarak Munyagwa (Common Man’s Party), Frank Bulira Kabinga (Revolutionary People’s Party), Mabirizi Joseph (Conservative Party), and Kasibante Robert (National Peasants Party).
