Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi has promised a sweeping plan to protect and empower farmers in Tororo District, including the introduction of a national crop insurance scheme aimed at shielding them from the devastating effects of drought, floods, and storms.
Speaking to crowds in Pajwenda, Nagongera, Nyenyem, and Apetai, Mafabi struck a tone of concern and determination, saying the suffering of farmers due to crop failure is unacceptable.
“We can’t continue to let farmers lose everything after months of hard work,” he said. “Under my leadership, we shall introduce crop insurance so that every farmer has protection when nature turns against them.”
Mafabi also promised to revive Uganda’s cooperative bank, allowing farmers access to interest-free loans. He said the country has enough resources to support agriculture and youth if only corruption is tackled.
“We are a rich country, but our systems are broken and our money is stolen,” Mafabi told supporters. “We will rebuild these systems to work for ordinary Ugandans, especially our farmers.”
Beyond agriculture, Mafabi pledged to address water scarcity in the region, calling access to clean water a right, not a luxury. He also reiterated his campaign pledge to give each graduate one million shillings in startup capital and help them find jobs within months.
“We must stop exporting our young people to suffer abroad. Let’s give them opportunities here at home,” he said.
Mafabi’s promises come as part of a broader vision to use agriculture as a springboard for economic development, especially in rural districts like Tororo.
He argued that if farmers are protected and supported, local economies will grow and living standards will rise across the country.
With these pledges, Mafabi hopes to not only win votes but also reshape how Uganda treats its farmers, youth, and natural resources.
Mafabi later proceeded to Busia where he was welcomed massively. His message was bent of fighting poverty and improving the quality public service.
