Nebbi District, Uganda – First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni, who also serves as the Minister of Education and Sports, has called on residents of Nebbi District to re-elect President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the upcoming general elections. She was speaking at a campaign rally held at Namrwodho Primary School playgrounds in Nebbi district, WestNile.
Mrs. Museveni emphasized the importance of safeguarding the peace and stability that Uganda has enjoyed under the leadership of the National Resistance Movement (NRM). “Young people may not fully understand where we’ve come from as a country,” she said, “but I urge you not to take for granted the peace and freedom we now enjoy in this land that God gave us.”
She reminded the crowd that development, prosperity, and national transformation are only possible when peace and security are maintained. “We only have one homeland. If we ruin it, we have nowhere else to go,” she said. “That’s why it’s our responsibility, yours to your families, your people, and your district to ensure that peace continues. God is using the NRM in this season to protect that peace.”
President Museveni Highlights Achievements in Nebbi District
President Museveni, the NRM’s presidential candidate, also addressed the rally and outlined the party’s development agenda for Nebbi District and the wider West Nile sub-region.
He highlighted major infrastructure projects completed under his government, including the Karuma–Koboko tarmac highway and the Nebbi power substation, which connected the entire West Nile sub-region to the national electricity grid. These, he said, form the foundation upon which voters should consider re-electing the NRM.
Museveni also cited several social development achievements in the district:
Education: 89 government primary schools, 8 government secondary schools, and 4 seed secondary schools.
Health: Health centers established in most parishes across Nebbi District.
Economic Support: UGX 18 billion disbursed to 63 parishes, benefiting around 20,000 households under the Parish Development Model.
The president promised to address remaining gaps in health and education infrastructure in the six parishes still lacking key facilities. He further committed to increasing funding through the Parish Development Model in his next term.
New Pledges for Economic Empowerment
As part of the NRM’s broader economic strategy, Museveni announced plans to introduce fish farming (pisciculture) projects targeting youth living along the River Nile. These, he said, would provide jobs and boost household incomes.
He also pledged to establish a University Leavers Fund, a financial support initiative for graduates, which will be implemented across all 19 zonal areas of the country.
The president encouraged citizens to invest Parish Development Model funds in productive ventures, particularly agriculture and aquaculture, citing their profitability and potential to transform local economies.
A Call to Uphold NRM Values
President Museveni concluded by urging Nebbi residents to vote for NRM candidates at all levels and to remain united and patriotic.
He reiterated that the district’s progress especially in peace and security, has been possible through the NRM’s leadership and should be preserved.
