ISINGIRO District: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, has started his Ankole sub-region campaign with a rally in Isingiro District, urging farmers to embrace modern agricultural practices especially irrigation to boost banana production and strengthen the district’s already vibrant market.
Addressing supporters at the Isingiro District headquarters playground, Museveni encouraged banana growers to benchmark successful modern farms such as the Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development in Bushenyi. He pledged full government support to help farmers adopt improved land-management techniques in the next term.
General Museveni promised to expand water-for-production interventions, saying increased irrigation will revolutionize agriculture while safeguarding the environment.
He cautioned residents against encroaching on vital wetlands and rivers, including Rwizi and Kagera, stressing their importance for sustainable farming and long-term ecological stability.
Beyond agriculture, the NRM candidate also reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening free education and called on the electorate to support these development programmes.
Museveni also announced plans to tarmac key feeder roads in Isingiro to boost connectivity with neighbouring districts.
Among the priority routes are the Kitagate–Kitwe–Miramar Hills Road and the Kabingo–Rwekubo–Rugaga–Rwangabo–Endinzi–Rakai–Mutukula Road.
He highlighted several major road projects already completed in the district, saying they form the backbone of ongoing socioeconomic transformation.
The President reminded residents of the stability the NRM restored in the region, urging them to continue backing the party’s leadership for sustained progress. He encouraged households to seize existing development opportunities, invest wisely in wealth-creation ventures and make strategic use of government empowerment funds.
Museveni promoted the NRM’s four-acre model, emphasizing profitable enterprises suitable for both small and large landowners and outlined job opportunities in commercial agriculture, manufacturing, services and ICT.
He noted that national industrialization efforts have expanded employment spaces, with large-scale agricultural projects such as palm-oil production further boosting local incomes.
The NRM candidate concluded Isingiro campaign rally by calling on the people of Isingiro to adopt economically sound projects, maximize returns from their land and continue building on the region’s growing development momentum.
