2026 ELECTIONS: Museveni Pledges Massive Development for Alebtong and Lango Sub-Region During Campaign Rally

Alebtong District, Uganda — National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has pledged a wide range of development projects for Alebtong District and the greater Lango sub-region, as he campaigns for re-election in the upcoming polls.

Addressing thousands of supporters at Alebtong District Headquarters, President Museveni emphasized the need for continuity in leadership, cautioning voters against what he described as “lies and confusion” spread by opposition politicians who he said lack a clear vision for Uganda’s future.

“Uganda needs experienced and focused leadership, not naive politicians who would destroy the gains we’ve made under the NRM,” said Museveni.

He pointed to the stability, peace, and infrastructure development achieved under his government, citing them as the foundation for Uganda’s continued journey towards prosperity. Museveni reminded residents of Alebtong of the historical hardships of war and instability that once plagued their region, which he said were resolved under NRM leadership.

Infrastructure and Industrialization

General Museveni outlined a host of planned infrastructure projects, including major road construction initiatives aimed at enhancing connectivity between regions. Among the key projects are the Lira–Alloyi–Abim Road, which links the Lango sub-region to Karamoja, and the Soroti–Amuria–Achan Pi Road.

He also pledged improved access to social services such as universal primary education, healthcare, and electricity distribution in underserved areas.

In a significant move to boost employment, Museveni revealed plans to establish an industrial park at Karuma to serve the Lango sub-region. He explained that the park, modeled on similar developments in other regions, would open up job opportunities and accelerate local industrial growth.

The NRM candidate said that revenue from Uganda’s oil sector would be channeled towards these development initiatives.

Boosting Agriculture and Land Use

On agriculture, Museveni promised to support better land-use planning, especially in wetland areas. He cited poor agricultural practices in the Lango sub-region, where landowners often mismatch their land capacity with farming needs.

To address this, he announced a plan to introduce large-scale wetland fish farming projects and other commercial agriculture solutions to promote sustainable and productive land use.

Additionally, the president reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing a “one primary school per parish” policy to bridge educational infrastructure gaps.

Security and Integration

Museveni applauded the people of Alebtong and Northern Uganda for supporting peace efforts and national unity, stressing the importance of regional integration for economic growth. He urged local leaders and residents to protect gains in security, trade, and market access, noting that integration within the region is essential for sustainable development.

Endorsement by Local NRM Leaders

During the rally, NRM leaders from Alebtong District, led by Dennis Hamson Obua, NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda, rallied support for Museveni and all NRM flag bearers. They highlighted the success of government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, Youth Livelihood Program, and GROW project, which have empowered communities through wealth creation.

Obua emphasized the restoration of peace in Northern Uganda as one of NRM’s most critical achievements and called on voters to preserve that legacy by voting for Museveni.
