Bukedea District, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, has criticized the National Unity Platform (NUP), describing it as “shallow and bogus.”
He questioned the opposition party’s decision to front a relative of Speaker Anita Annet Among as a potential candidate, calling the move a sign of weak political strategy.
While addressing his final rally in the Teso Sub-region at Bukedea District playgrounds, President Museveni wondered how NUP could front Florence Asio, a known relative of Speaker Among, to contest against her in Bukedea.
“How can NUP think they can use a relative of Anita Among to oppose her? That is shallow politics,” President Museveni told supporters.

During the event, Speaker Anita Among introduced Florence Asio to the President, noting that Asio is neither a politician nor a NUP member.
President Museveni commended Speaker Among for her leadership and for standing unopposed in the upcoming elections, calling it a sign of confidence from her constituents.
Before concluding his address, President Museveni highlighted the seven key pillars of the NRM manifesto, reaffirming his government’s commitment to socio-economic transformation, job creation, industrialization, improved service delivery, and continued stability across Uganda.
General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has also confirmed plans to tarmac the remaining phases of major roads in the Teso Sub-region as part of a “last mile” infrastructure development strategy aimed at improving mobility and interconnectivity across the region.
Among the major road projects highlighted are the Kumi–Ngora–Kagwara Road, Soroti–Amuria–Obaranga–Abim Road, and the Katakwi–Toroma Road.
President Museveni also pledged to ensure effective electricity distribution in the few remaining areas of Bukedea District.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reiterated the ban on rice cultivation in wetlands, saying the wetlands must be conserved to sustain agricultural activities.
He further explained the implementation plan for the Lake Kyoga Gravity Water Flow Scheme.
Earlier, President Museveni commissioned the Acomai Irrigation Scheme, a large-scale water harvesting system under the Agricultural Value Chain Development Program. The project aims to collect and retain runoff water from flood-prone areas and swamps in Bukedea and Bulambuli districts.
President noted that the Acomai Irrigation Scheme is an ideal water utilization model that will help control flooding in the lowland areas of Bulambuli and Bukedea districts.
The rally in Bukedea marked the end of the President’s campaign tour in the Teso Sub-region, drawing hundreds of enthusiastic supporters dressed in the NRM’s trademark yellow colors.
