EDUCATION :  A total of 352 former Senior Six students from various local and regional schools have graduated with certificates in Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Seeta University.

The colourful maiden graduation ceremony was held on April 11, 2026, at the university’s main campus in Mbalala along the Kampala–Jinja Highway in Mukono District.

The chief guest, Dr. Cosmos Mwikirize, Superintendent for Industrial Value Chain Development at the Secretariat of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation under the Office of the President, congratulated the graduates for embracing what he described as a highly relevant and transformative course. He noted that their decision to pursue AI positions them as future job creators at a critical time.Dr. Mwikirize emphasized that the government has placed strategic importance on expanding AI training among young people, particularly in educational institutions and the private sector, as a means of boosting local job creation.

He commended Dr. J.C. Muyingo, proprietor of Seeta University, for sponsoring the training programme, which has equipped students with foundational AI skills. He also applauded the government’s continued investment in the science, technology, and innovation sector, noting that such efforts have enabled the establishment of innovation and incubation hubs, including those at Namanve Industrial Park.

The Vice Chancellor of Seeta University, Maurice Tamale, congratulated parents for supporting their children’s participation in the programme. He encouraged more students to enrol at the institution, highlighting its commitment to offering practical, job-oriented courses designed to nurture responsible future leaders.Dr. Lilian Tamale, Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Technology, expressed appreciation to Dr. Muyingo for his support. She noted that the training has enabled students to develop innovative AI and robotics solutions, enhancing their employability in a rapidly evolving digital economy.

Joan Kirunga, Country Head of Women in Data Science Uganda, welcomed the increasing number of female participants in the programme. She said this trend is encouraging, as it opens up more opportunities for girls to pursue careers in information technology and become future experts in the field.

Kirunga added that her organisation is committed to partnering with institutions like Seeta University to expand access to such training opportunities for girls across the country, with the aim of empowering them to create their own jobs.

Speaking on behalf of the parents, Nalongo Madina Sebyala Kitaka expressed gratitude for the initiative. She highlighted her daughter, Summayah Wanyana from Lugazi Homeland College Kitega, who has already developed prototype robotics innovations, equipping her with skills to design digital systems for future income generation.
