Police in Kira Road are investigating a fatal road accident that claimed the life of a motorcyclist along the Northern Bypass near the Kisasi Flyover on the afternoon of July 29, 2025.

According to ASP Luke Owoyesigire, the Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the crash occurred at around 3:00 PM and involved a CAF King Long Bus assigned to the Uganda Cranes. The orange bus, bearing registration number UA 19059AA and driven by Khalid Ahmed, reportedly veered suddenly in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming trailer.

“In the process of swerving, the bus fatally struck a Boda Boda rider, who died instantly at the scene,” Owoyesigire said. The identity of the deceased rider remains unknown as efforts to notify and trace next of kin continue.

The body has been taken to the City Mortuary at Mulago for a postmortem examination. Both the bus and the motorcycle, registration number UFB 122F, have been impounded and are currently held at Kira Road Police Station for inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles.

Owoyesigire noted that investigations into the exact cause of the accident are still ongoing. He extended condolences to the victim’s family and urged all road users to prioritize safety, especially along busy highways like the Northern Bypass.
