2026 ELECTIONS: I am not in this race for political comedy – FDC’s Mafabi tells votes

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate James Nathan Nandala Mafabi has made it clear that he is not part of any political “comedy show” with President Yoweri Museveni, asserting the seriousness of his candidacy in the 2026 presidential elections.

While addressing a crowd at Kabwangasi Sub-county headquarters in Butebo District, Mafabi responded to a pointed question from a supporter who asked whether his campaign was simply political theatre.

“Mr. Nandala, we hear that you are just a player in this campaign. Is it true that you and Museveni are giving us political comedy?” one of the supporters asked.

In a firm response, Mafabi dismissed the notion: “I am not a comedian, and I’m certainly not in a comedy show with President Museveni. I am here because I am serious about leading this country and fixing what has gone wrong under his 40-year rule.”

Time for new leadership

Mafabi also criticized President Museveni’s long tenure, arguing that Uganda needs new leadership with bold ideas and the capacity to drive real change.

“What Museveni has failed to do in 40 years cannot be fixed in just five,” Mafabi told the crowd. “It’s time for him to step aside and allow new blood with fresh brains to move this country forward.”

He added that among the eight presidential candidates expected in next year’s race, he is the only one with the right mix of experience, knowledge, and vision to lead Uganda out of its current challenges.

“I am the answer to the problems Uganda is swimming in today. I ask for your support and your vote. Together, we can build a better future,” Mafabi said, urging residents of Kabwangasi to back his presidential bid.

It is a chance for Eastern Uganda

Highlighting regional disparities in Uganda’s leadership history, FDC National Vice Chairman Mr. Jamal Wante emphasized that the Eastern region has never produced a president.

“The Central region has had four presidents. The North has also produced four. The Western region has had one, President Museveni who has ruled for 40 years,” Wante said.
