Attorney General of Uganda Kiryowa Kiwanuka meets with Ghada Fathi Waly Executive Director United Nations on Drugs and Crime in Vienna.
This during United Nations convention against transitional organized crime in Vienna (Crime COP12 ) aimed to discussing opportunities for cooperation to tackle organized crimes that affect the environment and Money Laundering.
On her X platform, Director General Ghada Fathi Waly promises to look forward to working together to make a Lasting impact for Uganda.
AG Kiryowa Kiwanuka was amongst the four main Speakers at the Conference.
The 12th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC COP12) was opened on 14th October 2014, and is closing tomorrow 18th in Vienna.
NTOC is the only global, legally binding instrument through which governments commit to act and cooperate against organized crime.
Ghada Waly, Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime said that “The impact of organized crime around the world is growing more devastating than ever before,”
she added that “For organized crime, every community destroyed is fertile soil, every gap created is a route for trafficking, every gun left behind is a tool of power, and every person affected is a potential target for exploitation, affecting generations to come and always it’s the most vulnerable who pay the highest price.”
Every two years, the parties to the Convention meet to advance their responses to transnational organized crime and to promote and review the implementation of the Convention and its Protocols.
She added that “This session of the COP is an opportunity for all of us to pull together, and to rally around the UNTOC, to push back against this threat,”.
COP12, has featured over 50 side events and bring together representatives from over 128 countries.
