Police have arrested 41 suspects following violent incidents that rocked Gulu City Centre on December 6, 2025, during a campaign visit by National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu.
The arrests followed a coordinated, intelligence-led operation conducted on the night of December 18, 2025, after investigators reviewed CCTV footage and analyzed information from various intelligence networks. The suspects are currently being held at Gulu Central Police Station (CPS) as investigations continue.
According to the police statement, the violence involved assaults and the looting of civilians’ property, prompting an intensified crackdown on those believed to have orchestrated and participated in the chaos. Among those arrested is Aleng Fatuma, who authorities allege played a key role in mobilizing suspected criminal gangs through social media platforms, including TikTok.
Security agencies say operations are still underway to identify and apprehend all remaining accomplices. Police have reiterated their earlier pledge that anyone found culpable will be summoned or arrested in accordance with the law.
The public, particularly residents of the Acholi Sub-region, has been urged to remain calm as authorities work to ensure that all those responsible are held accountable and justice is served.
