Police in Katwe have arrested 57-year-old Nakanwagi Gladys Rebecca in connection with an alleged assault in Kavule Zone, Katwe, Makindye Division.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, preliminary investigations indicate that on the morning of January 9, at around 7:00am, Nakanwagi allegedly grabbed 65-year-old Namutebi Mariam by the T-shirt, physically assaulted her, and tore her clothing.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue, with the case file to be forwarded to the Office of the Resident State Attorney for legal review and guidance.
In a separate incident, police at Bulenga Station arrested 25-year-old Kabira Deo for allegedly damaging a police vehicle (Reg. No. UP 9770) on January 10 in Lufula, Nakabugo Parish, Wakiso District.
Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the attack occurred during crowd control operations while opposition presidential candidate Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi was en route to a campaign venue in Ssentema.
Kabira allegedly stoned and smashed the vehicle’s windscreen. Police visited the scene, and investigations are ongoing.
The authorities have condemned all forms of electoral violence and lawlessness.
