KAMPALA, Uganda–  MTN Mobile Money Uganda has officially kicked off the 2026 edition of its Win School Fees with MoMo campaign with a vibrant public launch at Old Taxi Park, marking the third consecutive year of the initiative that has transformed how Ugandan families approach school fees payments.

The event, attended by Keith Tukei, Chief Commercial Officer representing Richard Yego, Managing Director of MTN MoMo Uganda, alongside Jemima Kariuki, Chief Product Officer of MTN Mobile Money Uganda, brought together parents, guardians, and members of the public in a celebration that saw the announcement of the campaign’s first winners for 2026.

Emmanuel Ssenkatuuka, the second winner of the 2026 Win School Fees with MoMo campaign, poses with his wife, alongside Jemima Kariuki, CPO, MTN Mobile Money Uganda, and Keith Tukei, COO, MTN MoMo Uganda, at the Old Taxi Park.

Mr. Tonny Magomu and Emmanuel Ssenkatuuka became the first beneficiaries of the 2026 campaign, each winning school fees for a full year. Mr. Magomu, who has been consistently paying school fees through MoMo for his daughters over the past year, expressed profound relief at the win. His daughter Hazel, currently in Senior Two, described the moment as a blessing for their family. The emotional handover at Old Taxi Park set the tone for what promises to be the campaign’s most impactful year yet.

In addition to the major winners, MTN MoMo handed out instant prizes to members of the public who attended the launch, creating an atmosphere of excitement and possibility that reflected the campaign’s core mission of making education more accessible and less financially burdensome for Ugandan families.

Building on Three Years of Impact

This year’s campaign builds on a strong foundation of success. In 2025 alone, MTN MoMo supported over 70 winners across the country, distributing more than UGX 150 million in school fees. Beyond the monetary prizes, the campaign also provided scholastic materials to thousands of students throughout the year, reinforcing MoMo’s commitment to supporting education at multiple levels.

The 2026 edition takes this commitment even further. While parents and guardians continue to have the opportunity to win school fees for a full year by simply paying through MoMo, this year introduces a significant addition for schools. Educational institutions that register to collect school fees through the MoMo platform now stand a chance to win a school van, a prize designed to support daily operations and improve service delivery to students and communities.

Speaking at the launch, Richard Yego emphasized that education remains one of the strongest foundations for both individual growth and national progress. He highlighted that every child who stays in school gains skills, confidence, and opportunity, and every family that manages to educate their children contributes to a stronger and more resilient Uganda. Yego explained that the campaign goes beyond convenience to provide tangible support that can genuinely change the future of families by easing financial pressure and allowing parents to focus on what matters most.

Practical Solutions for Real Challenges

Jemima Kariuki addressed the practical realities that families face when paying school fees. She noted that for many parents and guardians, the process can be stressful, often involving finding the right amount at the right time and sometimes delaying other important needs. MoMo’s focus has been to remove as many of these barriers as possible by making school fees payments digital, secure, and easy to complete from anywhere.

The campaign offers multiple pathways for participation. Parents and guardians can pay school fees directly using the MoMo App or by dialing 16580#. Every payment made through MoMo automatically enters them into the draw to win school fees for a full year. The simplicity of the process ensures that families across Uganda, regardless of location, can participate and benefit.

For schools and bursars, the value proposition extends beyond the chance to win a van. Educational institutions that register to collect fees through MoMo benefit from faster reconciliation, improved payment tracking, and safer cashless transactions. This shift to digital collection enables more efficient and secure management of school fees, reducing administrative burden and improving financial transparency.

Flexibility Through School Fees Loans

Recognizing that timing can be a significant challenge when it comes to school fees, MTN MoMo continues to promote its School Fees Loans as a key component of the campaign. These loans provide flexible support to parents and guardians, allowing them to pay school fees on time and ensuring that children remain in school without interruption. Customers can apply for a school fees loan directly on the MoMo platform, and every loan payment also counts as an entry into the campaign.

The loan facility addresses a critical gap in educational financing, offering dignity and flexibility to families who may face temporary cash flow challenges. By integrating the loan option into the broader campaign, MoMo demonstrates its understanding of the complex financial realities that many Ugandan families navigate during the school fees season.

Community Engagement and Feedback

The Old Taxi Park launch also served as a platform for direct engagement between MTN MoMo leadership and the public. In a notable moment during the event, taxi drivers and operators requested that MTN MoMo make provisions for drivers to access MoMo Pay codes, enabling their customers to make payments more conveniently. This feedback reflects the campaign’s success in creating genuine dialogue between the service provider and the communities it serves.

The three-year track record of the Win School Fees with MoMo campaign demonstrates MTN MoMo’s recognition that education represents the greatest investment a parent can make, while also acknowledging that it remains one of the heaviest financial burdens families bear. Year after year, the campaign has evolved to meet changing needs while maintaining its core commitment to supporting access to education across Uganda.

How to Participate

For parents and guardians looking to participate in the 2026 campaign, the process is straightforward. Simply pay school fees using MoMo through the MoMo App or by dialing 16580#. Every school fees payment made via MoMo gives participants a chance to win school fees for a full year.

Schools and bursars interested in digital fee collection and the opportunity to win a school van are encouraged to register and start collecting school fees through the MoMo platform. The registration process provides access to improved tracking systems, safer transactions, and the administrative benefits of cashless operations.

Customers who need flexible payment options can apply for a MoMo School Fees Loan directly on the platform. The loan approval process is quick, and successful applicants can immediately pay school fees while automatically entering the campaign.

As Uganda’s families prepare for another school year, the Win School Fees with MoMo campaign offers more than just prizes. It represents a practical, customer-focused solution designed around real needs, backed by a platform that has consistently demonstrated its commitment to making education more accessible and affordable for all Ugandans.

The 2026 campaign runs throughout the school year, with multiple winners to be announced across all three terms. With school vans now added to the prize pool and a proven track record of transforming lives through education support, this year’s edition promises to be the most impactful yet.
