Uganda’s cross country runner Jacob Kiplimo has yet again shocked the world after winning EDP Lisbon half marathon.
Kiplimo a three-time world cross-country champion triumphed in a world record of 57:20 at the World Athletics Platinum Label road race on Sunday (8).
He took 10 seconds off Yomif Kejelcha’s official world record for the distance.
Before Kejelcha produced that mark in Valencia in 2024, Kiplimo had held the previous world record at 57:31, which he achieved in Lisbon in 2021.
He first covered 5km of the men’s race in a swift 13:28, followed closely by the Kenyan duo Nicholas Kipkorir and Gilbert Kiprotich who later lost the pace.
Kiplimo increased his tempo and forged ahead, covering the next 5km section in 13:31 maintaining till the finishing line.
Kipkorir and Kiprotich finished second and third within 58:08 and 58:59 respectively.
Tsigie Gebreselama also managed to defend her title, with 1:04:48 in the women’s category.
