A three-week-old baby boy who vanished from his home in Mubende District has been rescued alive, as police arrested four suspects in what authorities describe as a disturbing child-stealing scheme.
The incident occurred on the evening of April 25, 2026, in Kitonzi A Village, Lubimbiri Sub-county.
The infant’s mother, Janet Ainembabazi, had briefly left her home around 7:00pm to purchase household items from a nearby trading center, leaving her newborn son asleep inside.
When she returned, the baby was gone.
Panic quickly spread as neighbors joined in a desperate search.
The matter was promptly reported to Lubimbiri Police Station, triggering an investigation that would unravel a calculated plot.
A breakthrough came when a neighbor reported seeing a man, identified as Yahaya Sebuliba, near the home around the time of the disappearance.
Police swiftly arrested him, and under questioning, he confessed to abducting the child.
According to investigators, Sebuliba revealed he had been hired by Jovia Nakacwa, a resident of Namagogo Cell in Mubende Municipality.
Police then detained Nakacwa’s husband, Claude Ndayizeye, who disclosed that his wife had falsely claimed to be pregnant and had convinced him she was attending antenatal care.
He told officers he had recently been informed that she had delivered a baby boy.
Acting on intelligence, police launched an early morning operation on April 27, 2026 arresting Nakacwa at Kiruma Trading Center, where she had been hiding at the home of Sharon Kababiito.
The stolen infant was found with her alive and in good health.
Kababiito was also taken into custody for allegedly harboring the suspect.
Authorities confirmed that the baby has since been safely reunited with his mother, bringing relief and joy to the family and the community.
Police say the case file is being finalized and will soon be submitted to the Resident State Attorney in Mubende for formal charges against all suspects.
Wamala Region Police spokesperson Lameck Kigozi urged vigilance among families, particularly encouraging men to accompany their partners to antenatal visits to help prevent similar deception-related crimes.
