GULU CITY, Uganda — C-Care, Uganda’s largest private healthcare network, has officially inaugurated C-Care Hospital Gulu, marking a major shift in medical accessibility for Northern Uganda. This landmark expansion brings specialised medical services directly to the Acholi, Lango, and West Nile sub-regions — communities that have historically travelled hundreds of kilometres to Kampala for essential procedures.
The launch marks a milestone in C-Care’s 30th year of operations, helping bridge the healthcare gap by establishing a permanent, high-tech presence in Gulu while offering advanced diagnostics, emergency services, and specialist consultations to a region that has long faced a shortage of private specialist care.
C-Care Uganda has evolved into an integrated healthcare system comprising 20 clinics nationwide, with C-Care Hospital Gulu standing as one of the most significant realisations of this vision to date. While Northern Uganda represents a substantial portion of the national population, the region’s medical infrastructure has traditionally lagged behind the capital. C-Care Uganda’s full-service facility aims to address this imbalance.
Andrew Mugalu, General Manager of C-Care IMC, while speaking at the launch, emphasised the practical impact of the new facility.
“Our doctors can now practise evidence-based medicine with total confidence, supported by on-site imaging and diagnostics that significantly improve patient outcomes. C-Care Hospital Gulu marks the end of an era where patients in the north had to choose between delayed care or an exhausting journey south. That choice should never have existed, and today we are making sure it no longer does.”
The opening has been welcomed by local leaders and health advocates, who say a well-resourced private hospital provides a critical safety net in a region where public health facilities are often overstretched.
C-Care Hospital Gulu is equipped with advanced diagnostic services, including on-site CT imaging and digital X-rays that previously required referrals to Kampala. The facility also boasts specialised staff, including resident radiologists, technologists, and emergency care specialists, alongside integrated care systems that ensure seamless transitions between outpatient, emergency, and inpatient departments.
Guest of Honour Helene Echevin, CEO of C-Care International, noted during the event:
“Our investment in Gulu reflects our belief that geography should never dictate the quality of healthcare a person receives. Gulu City deserves a facility capable of providing definitive treatment and sophisticated diagnostics on-site, moving beyond mere stabilisation for transport. By elevating C-Care IMC Gulu to a full-scale hospital, we are establishing a permanent cornerstone for clinical excellence that will serve Northern Uganda for decades to come.”
C-Care Hospital Gulu has already confirmed plans for immediate expansion, including 55 additional inpatient beds, a state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a dedicated mother-and-child centre, and an upgraded accident and emergency department.
As of 2026, Uganda’s healthcare landscape has officially changed. For the people of Northern Uganda, world-class medical care is no longer a journey away — it is now closer to home.
