PARLIAMENT : The incoming Member of Parliament for Bulambuli County in Bulambuli District, Emmanuel Wepukhulu Biara, has pledged to work with stakeholders to strengthen efforts aimed at combating cattle rustling and addressing the persistent mudslides that continue to cause devastation in the district.
Wepukhulu made the remarks on 13th May 2026 shortly after his swearing-in ceremony at Parliament, before later addressing his supporters and political leaders from the Bugisu sub-region during a reception dinner held in Mbalwa, Wakiso District.
He said the slopes of Mount Elgon remain a death trap where several lives are lost every year due to encroachment by people searching for survival livelihoods. He pledged to work with the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness and Refugees to seek lasting solutions to the mudslides that continue to displace families in the area.
Turning to the issue of Karamojong cattle rustling, Wepukhulu said they had engaged the UPDF 3rd Division headquarters to establish a detachment in the area to help curb the rustling incidents faced by the people of Bulambuli at the hands of hostile Karamojong warriors.
On the economic empowerment front, he pledged to work closely with development partners and government agencies to support community-led and development-driven projects aimed at fighting poverty.
He thanked his supporters for standing with him throughout the political campaign period, which ultimately led to his victory.
