The High Court Criminal Division has sentenced notorious Wakiso-based land grabber Charles Kyagaba to eight years in prison for obtaining money by false pretences.
According to the Anti-Corruption Unit of State House, Kyagaba was convicted on two counts of obtaining money by false pretences, with each count attracting a four-year sentence to be served consecutively.
Kyagaba, alongside accomplices who are still on the run, is accused of orchestrating a long-running land fraud scheme that targeted residents in Wakiso District, particularly in Entebbe.
Authorities said the group would allegedly fraudulently claim ownership of people’s properties before selling the land to unsuspecting buyers, leaving many victims displaced and financially devastated.
The sentencing is being viewed as a major breakthrough in the fight against land grabbing, a vice that has for years affected residents in several parts of the country.
The Anti-Corruption Unit praised the court’s decision, saying it sends a strong warning to individuals involved in fraudulent land dealings and related criminal activities.
Security agencies have vowed to continue pursuing Kyagaba’s accomplices who remain at large.
