A man accused of illegally operating a rehabilitation centre and unlawfully possessing government medicines has been remanded to Kitalya Government Prison after appearing before the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Entebbe.
Pail Onwe Esheya was arraigned on charges of unlawful possession of government stores, including medicines, and operating a health facility without a valid licence.
He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
According to the Health Monitoring Unit of State House, the charges stem from investigations into a rehabilitation facility that was allegedly operating without the required licences and regulatory approvals.
During the operation, investigators reportedly recovered government medicines and medical supplies from the premises, some bearing the inscriptions “Government of Uganda, Not for Sale” and “For Public Use Only.”
Authorities allege that Esheya was running the rehabilitation centre without the mandatory licence required to operate a health facility in Uganda.
Following his court appearance, the Chief Magistrate ordered that he be remanded to Kitalya Government Prison.
The case was adjourned to July 15, 2026, for further mention as investigations and prosecution proceedings continue.
