KAMPALA — The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) has assured the public that it is overseeing the orderly transition of Uganda’s National Lottery following the cessation of operations by ITHUBA Uganda Limited.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the regulator said it is managing the process under its statutory and regulatory mandate after ITHUBA formally notified the Board that it stopped offering National Lottery games on June 30, 2026, and ceased trading on July 1, 2026.

According to the NLGRB, it had been engaging ITHUBA Uganda over the company’s financial and operational position before receiving the formal notification of its decision to halt operations.

The Board emphasized that ITHUBA’s exit does not exempt the company from its legal obligations under the National Lottery Licence, the Concession Agreement, or the relevant laws governing the sector.

“The Operator’s cessation of operations does not relieve ITHUBA Uganda Limited of its obligations under the law, the National Lottery Licence, or the Concession Agreement,” the regulator said.

NLGRB said it has initiated the necessary regulatory and oversight measures to safeguard the interests of government, lottery players, prize winners, retailers, employees, and other affected stakeholders.

The regulator added that it is working closely with the operator and relevant institutions to ensure an orderly, transparent, and legally compliant transition.

It noted that all outstanding matters, including player balances, prize claims, operational records, liabilities, and other obligations arising from National Lottery operations, remain under regulatory supervision and will be handled in accordance with the law.

Players with outstanding prize claims or account balances have been advised to contact ITHUBA Uganda Limited through its official customer care channels by calling 0800 334433 or emailing info@nationallottery.go.ug, while the regulator continues to monitor the settlement of all valid claims.

The Board said it will provide further updates and public guidance as the transition process progresses.

NLGRB reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a transparent, accountable, and well-regulated gaming industry while protecting the interests of the public and all stakeholders.
