The chief guest, Silver Tindizilarira, Assistant Commissioner for District Inspection at the Ministry of Local Government, urged parents to support children who have a passion for sports instead of discouraging them.
He said the Government is implementing a Presidential directive requiring all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to conduct weekly physical fitness activities to promote healthy living.
Tindizilarira commended the Headmaster of Namilyango College, Constantine Sajabbi Mpuuga, for effectively implementing the directive through a vibrant sports programme that is nurturing future sports stars. He warned that institutions failing to comply with the directive could face sanctions.
He also expressed concern over what he described as the growing neglect of the boy child, saying society should give equal attention to nurturing boys alongside girls.
“We should collectively take care of the boy child by nurturing him because he will, in the future, shoulder the responsibility of leading and supporting his family,” he said.
The College Games Master, Christopher Oluk, applauded the leadership of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) for its continuous technical and logistical support towards the college’s sports development programme.
He noted that the partnership has enabled Namilyango College to qualify for national competitions in six different sporting disciplines.
Oluk added that USSSA has consistently deployed technical experts to mentor, train and guide students, including officiating and supervising all 13 disciplines during the inter-house championships.
The Manager of Centenary Bank’s Mukono Branch, Adolf Owora, praised the strong partnership between the bank and Namilyango College, describing the institution as a valued strategic partner.
He said the bank will continue strengthening its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives through financial literacy programmes, promoting a savings culture among students and stakeholders, and supporting community development projects.
Owora noted that Centenary Bank is also supporting several national initiatives, including the upcoming Cancer Run, tree-planting campaigns, education loan programmes and other community-focused interventions.
Headmaster Constantine Sajabbi Mpuuga thanked the College Board of Governors for implementing inclusive policies aimed at producing well-rounded students through academics, sports and leadership development.
He also appreciated the leadership of the Namilyango College Old Boys Association (NACOBA), represented by Rogers Sekagya, for managing what he described as the association’s highly successful SACCO, which has grown to UGX 4.5 billion. He said proceeds from the SACCO continue to finance key infrastructure development projects at the college.
Mpuuga further revealed that the Peregrine Kibuuka Endowment Fund, established to support bright but financially disadvantaged students, has grown to a cumulative value of UGX 350 million, enabling more deserving learners to access quality education at the institution.
