Kampala Metropolitan Police South, through Kabalagala Police Division, is investigating a case of murder, attempted murder and arson following an incident at Kalungu Bunga, also known as Kalungu Zone or Bunga-Kalungu, in Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala District.
The incident occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, when a housemaid was reportedly alerted by an alarm and cries for help from children in the main house.
According to police, the maid went to the house and found several children with serious injuries. She opened the house and discovered the children with what police described as severe stab wounds.
Khadija Daizy, 14, was found dead in her bedroom, while Hawa Dalena, 7, later died while receiving treatment at Nsambya Hospital.
Three other children, aged 13, 8 and 5, survived the incident and were rushed to hospital for medical attention.
Police have identified the suspect as Namayo Dorothy, 43, a Kenyan national and mother of the children. She was also found injured and is currently receiving treatment at Mulago National Referral Hospital under police guard.
A Toyota Hiace vehicle at the home was also set on fire and completely burnt.
Residents and local leaders said neighbours were alerted at around 5:00 a.m. after a car alarm went off. They reportedly found the vehicle on fire before hearing children crying from inside the locked house and forcing their way in.
Police are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the children’s deaths and injuries, the cause of the fire, and what transpired inside the home before the incident.
Investigations are ongoing, with police examining the scene and recording statements from witnesses and survivors.
