KISORO, UGANDA — Police in Kisoro District, in conjunction with the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, have arrested two LC5 councillors over allegations of corruption and abuse of office.

The suspects have been identified as Hakizimana Amos, 45, an LC5 councillor for Mulora Sub-county and District Speaker, and Mfitumukiza John, 35, an LC5 councillor for Nyarusiza Sub-county.

Hakizimana is a resident of Kamonyi Cell, Kamonyi Ward, Kisoro Municipality, while Mfitumukiza resides in Zindiro Cell, Kamonyi Ward, Kisoro Municipality.

Police allege that the two officials abused their offices by soliciting bribes from job seekers in Kisoro District in 2025.

According to Nelson Tumushime SP, PRO Kigezi Region, suspects are currently detained at Kisoro Central Police Station pending further investigations.

Police have reaffirmed their commitment to fighting corruption in public offices and urged public officials to uphold the law, accountability and transparency in the management of public resources.
