A Shs250 million community health centre is set to be constructed in Kavule, Mityana District, in a major initiative aimed at bringing affordable and timely healthcare services closer to more than 100,000 people in the rural community.
The project is being spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Muyenga, whose president, Beatrice Lugalambi, says the proposed facility will help address persistent challenges faced by vulnerable communities in accessing quality healthcare.
Lugalambi said the health centre is the club’s signature flagship project, designed to complement government efforts to extend essential social services to underserved rural populations.
“Once the project is completed, at least 100,000 people will be able to access quality, timely and affordable healthcare services,” Lugalambi said.
She made the remarks on August 30, 2026, on the sidelines of the Rotary Cancer Run held at the Kololo Independence Grounds.
Lugalambi, who is also the General Manager for Corporate Communications and Marketing at Centenary Bank, said the decision to establish the health centre was informed by the need to respond to the healthcare challenges affecting residents of Kavule and surrounding communities.
She appealed to individuals, organisations and institutions of goodwill to support the project through financial and other contributions, saying collective efforts were needed to ensure vulnerable communities gain access to essential medical services.
“This is a noble initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable communities in Mityana who continue to face challenges associated with inadequate access to healthcare services,” she said.
Lugalambi also commended the government for creating an enabling environment that has allowed organisations such as Rotary to participate in extending social services to rural communities.
Rotary Cancer Run
Meanwhile, the Rotary Club of Muyenga emerged among the clubs that strongly supported this year’s Rotary Cancer Run campaign, successfully selling 2,784 cancer-run kits.
Lugalambi thanked the club’s sponsors and partners for their support towards the cancer awareness and fundraising campaign.
Among those she recognised were Bukoola Chemical Industries Ltd, Movit Foundation, Housing Finance Bank, National Drug Authority (NDA), Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Equity Bank, Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), Uganda Clays Ltd, Prudential, Kampala International University (KIU), Pearl Bank, OQATA and Qatar, among others.
The support, she said, demonstrates the importance of partnerships between the private sector, civil society and community organisations in addressing major public health challenges.
