Police in Kampala Metropolitan South have arrested four suspects and recovered several motorcycles believed to have been stolen as investigations intensify into a suspected network involved in motorcycle theft, dismantling and resale.

The arrests followed intelligence-led operations conducted by officers attached to Katwe Police Division after receiving information about a suspected stolen Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UMA 2244MX.

The motorcycle was recovered from Purtaz  Banturaki, a resident of Wankulukuku Zone in Kabowa Parish, Rubaga Division.

“Police are continuing with investigations to apprehend other suspects still at large, recover additional suspected stolen motorcycles and establish the wider network involved in the theft, dismantling and disposal of the motorcycles,” said Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.

During interrogation, Banturaki allegedly disclosed that he had previously stolen two other motorcycles.

Police said one of them, a Bajaj Boxer registration number UFH 005Y, was reportedly stolen from Nkumba and sold to Lukyamuzi Muminu and Abasi Mwesezi in Rakai District.

Another motorcycle, registration number UEQ, was allegedly stolen from Kigungu in Entebbe and sold to a suspect identified as Mike in Wansaso Zone.
Acting on the intelligence, police mounted an operation in Wansaso Zone and recovered the UEQ motorcycle after its number plate had allegedly been removed. Two suspects, Ferric Senyange and Ian Kagwa, were arrested on allegations of receiving the stolen motorcycle and taking it to the suspected promoter.

On September 2, 2026, Crime Intelligence officers travelled to Rakai District, where they arrested Lukyamuzi Muminu. Police said Muminu admitted purchasing the UFH 005Y motorcycle for Shs500,000 and allegedly revealed that he and his accomplice, Abasi Mwesezi, dismantled it before selling it as spare parts.

Investigators also recovered the motorcycle’s number plate, UFH 005Y, which had allegedly been concealed at the suspect’s ancestral home.

Another Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UDM 669Z, was also recovered during the operation.
Police said investigations remain ongoing as detectives work to trace other suspects believed to be involved in the alleged theft and disposal network, recover more motorcycles and establish the full extent of the operation.
