DUBAI, UAE — Yadea, the world’s leading manufacturer of electric two-wheelers, has partnered with Spiro, Africa’s leading electric mobility company, to expand accessible and sustainable electric transport across the continent.

The strategic partnership will combine Yadea’s global manufacturing, technology and research and development capabilities with Spiro’s operational network, battery-swapping infrastructure and knowledge of African markets.

The companies aim to establish a scalable and commercially sustainable electric mobility ecosystem serving millions of riders, businesses, commercial fleet operators, delivery services, logistics providers and daily commuters across Africa’s rapidly growing mobility markets.

Under the agreement, Yadea will supply electric two-wheelers and related electric vehicle products tailored to Spiro’s expanding markets, while Spiro will integrate the vehicles into its battery-swapping and energy infrastructure.

The two companies will also co-develop customised electric two-wheeler platforms designed for African road conditions and commercial applications.

The partnership is expected to strengthen China-Africa cooperation in the electric mobility sector by combining Yadea’s manufacturing scale and technological expertise with Spiro’s battery-swapping network and understanding of local market dynamics.

“When we launched Spiro, our mission was to lay the energy and mobility foundation for Africa’s green transition. Our strategic partnership with Yadea is a major endorsement of our execution to date and opens fantastic opportunities to jointly pioneer the next era of electric mobility in emerging markets,” said Gagan Gupta, Founder of Spiro and Chairman of Equitane.

Anant Badjatya, CEO of Spiro, said the partnership would help the company respond to the growing demand for electric mobility across Africa.

“Africa’s shift to electric mobility is accelerating and this partnership helps us meet that demand at scale. By bringing together Yadea’s manufacturing strength with Spiro’s electric mobility ecosystem and operating experience across Africa, we are compressing the timeline to clean transport — helping thousands more riders switch to affordable EVs faster and multiplying our climate impact across the continent,” Badjatya said.

Wang Jiazhong, Senior Vice President of Yadea Technology Group, said Africa represented a major opportunity for zero-emission transport.

“Africa represents a massive frontier for zero-emission transport. Our mission to reduce carbon emissions has reached a powerful milestone through this partnership with Spiro. Together, we are combining global innovation with local infrastructure to deliver scalable and sustainable mobility solutions that serve millions of riders and transform Africa’s urban transit,” Wang said.

Founded in China in 2001, Yadea has sold more than 100 million electric vehicles in over 100 countries and operates 10 production facilities globally.

The company has more than 2,000 patents related to electric vehicle technology and offers a range of electric two-wheelers and urban micro-mobility solutions. Yadea has also ranked first globally in electric two-wheeler sales for nine consecutive years and has a retail network of more than 40,000 stores.

The partnership comes as Spiro enters its next phase of growth and expansion across Africa following a US$270 million funding round, which included investment from NewTrails Capital, a Chinese fund.

Spiro is developing an integrated electric mobility ecosystem combining electric motorcycles with a battery-swapping network. The system allows riders to exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones within minutes, reducing charging downtime.

According to the company, Spiro operates in seven African countries, with more than 130,000 electric motorcycles, over 2,500 battery-swapping stations and more than 50 million battery swaps completed to date.

The company says its electric motorcycles have covered more than two billion kilometres, helping reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels and providing more affordable and sustainable transport options.

Spiro also operates assembly facilities in Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria and Rwanda, as part of its drive to expand local production of electric vehicles across Africa.

The partnership between Yadea and Spiro is expected to further expand access to electric two-wheelers while supporting Africa’s transition towards cleaner, more affordable and sustainable urban transport.
