KUALA LUMPUR — Uganda is stepping up efforts to tap into the fast-growing global Halal economy, with the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) positioning Halal quality infrastructure as a key driver of exports, investment, industrialisation and job creation.
At the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, UNBS engaged international stakeholders on measures to strengthen Uganda’s Halal standards, certification, conformity assessment, traceability and access to international markets.
The engagement is part of Uganda’s broader strategy to build a competitive Halal production and processing ecosystem capable of attracting investment and expanding the country’s presence in high-value global markets.
UNBS says strengthening the country’s Halal quality infrastructure will also support Ugandan businesses seeking to meet international requirements and compete more effectively in overseas markets.
The initiative seeks to position Uganda as a Halal production, processing, investment and export hub for East and Central Africa, creating opportunities for enterprises to expand beyond traditional markets.
By deepening standards, certification and traceability systems, Uganda aims to strengthen confidence in locally produced goods while opening new opportunities for exporters and investors in the Halal economy.
The MIHAS engagement therefore provides a platform for Uganda to showcase its potential while building international partnerships that can support the country’s ambitions for export-led industrialisation and job creation.
