The airline’s return was marked on October 1, 2026, when its inaugural flight touched down at Entebbe International Airport at 11:15am and was received by the Minister of Works and Transport, Hon. Fred Byamukama, in a water salute ceremony.
Byamukama said the renewed connection would support trade, tourism, investment and movement of people between the two countries.
“Aviation is not simply about transporting passengers; it connects businesses to markets, tourists to destinations and investors to opportunities,” he said.
The Minister said Uganda has so far concluded Bilateral Air Services Agreements (BASAs) with 64 countries as part of efforts to expand the country’s international air connectivity.
BASAs provide the legal framework governing international air services between countries, including airline designation, traffic rights and routes.
Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) Director General Fred K. Bamwesigye described JamboJet’s return as a sign of confidence in Uganda’s aviation sector.
“The return to Entebbe International Airport is a clear vote of confidence in Uganda’s air transport system,” Bamwesigye said.
He also urged JamboJet and other airlines operating at Entebbe to maintain high standards of safety, security and service delivery.
Bamwesigye further noted that Uganda’s return to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council had strengthened the country’s voice in global aviation affairs and in discussions on international civil aviation standards and policies.
JamboJet, a Kenyan low-cost carrier, first launched flights on the Nairobi-Entebbe route in 2018. Its return comes with a focus on affordable fares, direct connections and reliable service.
The airline’s Chief Finance Officer, speaking on behalf of Chief Executive Officer Karanja Ndegwa, said the carrier was pleased to reconnect Uganda and Kenya through direct flights.
JamboJet has started with one daily flight between Nairobi and Entebbe, with the possibility of increasing frequencies as passenger demand grows.
The airline’s return also brings the number of international air operators at Entebbe International Airport to 21, giving travellers more options while supporting the continued growth of Uganda’s international aviation sector.
For Uganda, the renewed Nairobi-Entebbe connection provides another link to Kenya and the wider regional and international aviation network.
