Police have arrested 47 people in a security and intelligence-led operation targeting suspected drug abuse and other criminal activities in parts of Katwe and surrounding areas.
The operation, conducted on October 1, 2026, by Katwe Police in conjunction with other security and intelligence teams, began at about 4pm and continued until approximately 2am on October 2.
The Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Rachael Kawala said 22 suspects were initially arrested in Kanaaba and Kabuuma zones in Ndejje Parish, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District.

The operation was later extended to Kitebi Zone in Bunamwaya Parish, where another 25 suspects were apprehended.
Kawala said the operation was intelligence-led and focused on individuals suspected of involvement in criminal activities.
“The operation was conducted based on security intelligence targeting suspects involved in drug abuse and other criminal activities,” she said.
Among those arrested was Marvin Kabuye, whom police described as a notorious suspect allegedly involved in altering motorcycle chassis and engine numbers.
Police said Kabuye was found with several breaking implements and devices allegedly used to tamper with motorcycle chassis and engine numbers.
During the operation, officers also recovered suspected narcotic drugs, shisha pots and other breaking implements. Two motorcycles, a red Bajaj Boxer registration UGF 974 L and a maroon Haojue registration UMA 918 M, were also recovered.
The 47 suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue, after which they are expected to face the appropriate legal proceedings.
Kawala said police would continue using intelligence-led operations to identify and apprehend individuals suspected of facilitating criminal activities in the affected areas.
