NDEJJE, Wakiso (UGNEWSLINE) — Police have recovered three cattle suspected to have been stolen and arrested four people in connection with the animals in Ndejje Kibutika Zone, Ndejje Parish, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District.
Police said they received information on October 4 about a group of people allegedly involved in transporting stolen cattle in the area.
Officers followed up on the information two days later and found three cattle at the residence of a male suspect.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the suspect claimed he had bought the animals for Shs4.5 million but failed to provide a clear account of where they came from.
“He was unable to produce the required animal movement documentation, and his account regarding the source of the cattle was conflicting,” Owoyesigyire said.
Police said three other suspects were arrested after they reportedly arrived at the residence to transport the cattle to another location.
The four suspects and the recovered animals were taken to Katwe Police Division as investigators work to establish the rightful ownership of the cattle and determine how they were obtained.
Police have urged people involved in buying and transporting livestock to verify ownership and ensure all required documentation is in place before completing transactions, warning that failure to do so could expose them to dealing in stolen animals.
