KAMPALA, Uganda (UGNEWSLINE) – PZ Cussons is seeking to strengthen Uganda’s salon industry through training in quality haircare products, as the company positions professional product knowledge as a key driver of customer satisfaction, business growth and youth employment.
The company held its first salon seminar in Kampala at Hotel La Grande, bringing together salon owners and hairdressers for practical training on its refreshed Venus haircare range and how to use the products to address common hair and scalp challenges.
The initiative comes at a time when salons continue to provide employment and business opportunities for young people, particularly women and youth seeking to build careers in the beauty industry.
Mariam Nabwami, PZ Cussons Uganda Business Development Manager, said equipping salon operators with the right product knowledge would help them improve their services, retain customers and build sustainable businesses.
“We are here to teach our salons how to use Venus products and the full haircare regimen. When a customer comes with breaking, weak or thinning hair, the salonist should understand how to care for that hair and which products to use,” Nabwami said.
She explained that although Venus is an established brand, the company has introduced changes to its haircare range that many salon operators and consumers may not yet understand.
The seminar provided an opportunity for salonists to learn about the products, share experiences and understand how to recommend appropriate haircare solutions to their clients.
Among the products highlighted was Venus Moisture Seal 5-in-1 Strengthening Oil Blend, designed to support hair moisture retention and strength, particularly for people experiencing dry, weak or breaking hair.
The company also introduced its Venus Anti-Dandruff 2-in-1 Scalp Care range, which targets dandruff and scalp care, alongside products for maintaining braided and other protective hairstyles.
Phina Baddie, a hair and beauty consultant at PZ Cussons, said the training was intended to give salonists accurate information and practical knowledge so they could use the products effectively on their customers.
She said the refreshed Venus range was informed by research involving consumers and haircare professionals, with the company seeking to respond to concerns about hair breakage, dryness, damaged hair and dandruff.
“We want salonists to have as much information as possible because customers are increasingly informed about haircare. When professionals understand the products they use, they are better positioned to serve their clients,” Baddie said.
She added that the company had observed challenges affecting salon businesses, including the closure of some establishments, and believes that improving professional knowledge and service quality can help operators build customer confidence and encourage repeat business.
According to Baddie, customers who receive good service and achieve satisfactory results are more likely to recommend a salon to friends and relatives, helping businesses attract new clients through word of mouth.
The company is also encouraging young people training as hairdressers and those planning to open salons to prioritise quality products and understand the needs of different customers.
Nabwami said using appropriate products could help salonists differentiate their services in a competitive market, while better customer experiences could translate into stronger businesses and more employment opportunities.
Beyond training, PZ Cussons used the seminar to address concerns about product availability, announcing that Growwell Uganda Limited is now the official distributor of its brands in Uganda.
The arrangement is expected to improve the availability of Venus and other PZ Cussons products in beauty shops, salons and supermarkets across the country.
The company also urged consumers to watch out for counterfeit products. Nabwami said Venus packaging features distinctive colours and bottles with the brand name engraved on the cap, which consumers can check when purchasing the products.
PZ Cussons said it plans to continue engaging salon professionals and consumers through further activities aimed at increasing awareness of the refreshed Venus range.
