RUBANDA, Uganda (UGNEWSLINE) –Police in Rubanda District are investigating an incident of mob justice in which two motorcycles were set ablaze by angry residents who suspected the riders of involvement in livestock theft.
The incident occurred at around 2am on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, in Rwamiganda Village, Mpungu Parish, Hamurwa Sub-county.
According to police, the residents intercepted the two motorcycles after suspecting their riders to be livestock thieves allegedly terrorising the area.
The motorcycles were burnt, and the wreckages have since been recovered by police as exhibits to support investigations.
Nelson Tumushime, the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, condemned the act of mob justice and urged residents to report suspected criminals to the police or local leaders instead of taking the law into their own hands.
“We strongly condemn acts of mob justice. Taking the law into your own hands is criminal,” Tumushime said.
He added that investigations are ongoing, with police pursuing efforts to arrest both the suspected thieves and the alleged ringleaders of the mob.
Police urged members of the public to remain calm and allow law enforcement agencies to handle suspected criminal cases through established legal procedures.
