KAMPALA, Uganda (UGNEWSLINE) – The Ministry of Works and Transport is set to begin restoring faulty street lights along the Kampala Northern Bypass between Kiwatule Overpass and Kigowa Channel Valley following reports that the area has become unsafe due to darkness.
The Ministry’s Principal Public Relations Officer Khadija Nakakande said the ministry received reports that the lights in the area initially started flickering before eventually going off completely.
She said the darkness has created a security concern, with suspected thieves taking advantage of the situation to rob road users.
“Our technical team responsible for maintenance is prepared to begin work on Tuesday 20th. They will first assess the situation to establish the cause of the malfunctioning lights before proceeding with the restoration,” Nakakande said.
She expressed optimism that the lights would be restored by the end of the week, allowing motorists and other road users to use the bypass more safely.
“We remain committed to ensuring that our people are safe as they use the different roads,” she said.
The ministry also called on road users and the public to help protect public infrastructure, saying maintaining road facilities is important for the safety and benefit of everyone.
