KAMPALA, Uganda (UGNEWSLINE) – The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development has warned women entrepreneurs and the general public against fraudsters falsely claiming to offer grants under the Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) Project.
In a public alert issued on October 23, 2026, the Ministry said some individuals were unlawfully using its name and that of the GROW Project to deceive unsuspecting members of the public by directing them to unauthorised websites to register for purported grants.
The Ministry said the fraudulent activities are intended to defraud the public through false claims and unlawful solicitation.
It advised women entrepreneurs and other members of the public not to register on suspicious platforms or share their personal information with individuals or websites that have not been officially authorised by the Ministry or the GROW Project.
The Ministry clarified that all official announcements, calls for applications and programme updates are communicated through the GROW Project website, www.grow.go.ug, the Ministry’s website, www.mglsd.go.ug, official social media platforms on X, TikTok, Instagram and LinkedIn, as well as national daily newspapers where applicable.
It warned that any website, social media account, agent or organisation claiming to represent the Ministry or the GROW Project outside these official channels should be treated with suspicion.
The Ministry also urged the public to report anyone demanding money, facilitation fees, registration charges or other payments in exchange for access to GROW Project training, financing, grants or business support services.
Suspected cases should be reported to the nearest police station or police post for investigation.
According to the Ministry, the matter has already been reported to the relevant law enforcement authorities for investigation and appropriate action.
The Ministry further clarified that applications for the GROW Business Plan Competition Grants have not yet opened.
It said a public announcement would be made through official communication channels once the application window is launched, adding that all applications would be submitted electronically through the GROW Project website.
The GROW Project aims to expand access to entrepreneurial opportunities and support for women-owned enterprises in Uganda.
Women entrepreneurs seeking clarification or wishing to report suspected fraud can contact the Ministry through its toll-free line, 0800 307 777, or visit the GROW Project offices on the third floor of Gender and Labour House, Plot 2 George Street, Kampala.
The Ministry urged the public to remain vigilant and rely only on verified information to avoid falling victim to fraudulent grant schemes.
