KAMPALA — Vienna College Namugongo today celebrated a double milestone with the graduation of its Year 11 and Year 13 students, and the commemoration of its 25th anniversary — a silver jubilee that highlighted the school’s enduring legacy of academic excellence.
The ceremony, held on the school’s Namugongo campus, honored the achievements of students completing their IGCSE (Year 11) and A-Level (Year 13) studies.
A total of 231 students graduated — 91 at IGCSE level and 140 completing their A-Levels — in a colorful event
Speaking at the event, the Principal of Vienna College, Kakiika Muhammed emphasized the significance of graduation as more than just a ceremonial send-off. “You can complete your exams and even pass, but unless you meet all the conditions — including conduct and financial clearance — you do not graduate,” he said. “Universities across the world require not just exam transcripts, but proof that a student has officially graduated from high school.”
An International Curriculum Advantage
Mr. Kakiika highlighted the advantages of the Cambridge international curriculum, which allows students to apply for university admissions earlier than those under the Ugandan system.
“Year 13 students, who sat their AS-levels in November 2024, have already used their results to secure provisional admissions, with many set to join universities abroad,” he said. Adding that final A-Level exams (A2s) are currently ongoing, with results expected in early August.
“For Year 11 students, the next step is A-Level studies beginning in September, following the release of their IGCSE results, also in August,” he said.
Celebrating a Silver Jubilee
Founded in 2000, the school has grown into one of Uganda’s premier international institutions. “Of the 25 years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as head for 18,” said Mr. Kakiika the Principal, noting that “It’s been a journey of growth, impact, and innovation in education.”
The guest of honour, Prof. Monica B. Chibita, Dean School of Journalism, Media and Communication at Uganda Christian University (UCU) highlighted the school’s remarkable legacy and promising future.
Addressing graduates, staff, parents, and dignitaries, Prof. Chibita praised Vienna College for its outstanding growth, “Over the years, the school has made great strides, especially in academic excellence, character development, and entrepreneurship.” She stated.
Academic Excellence and Global Recognition
Prof. Chibita highlighted Vienna’s consistent academic performance, particularly in Cambridge International Examinations.
She added that students who join UCU from Vienna often stand out for their competence and values, particularly in the medical school. And this has sparked ongoing discussions about strengthening partnerships between the two institutions.
Entrepreneurship and Practical Skills
Beyond academics, Prof. Chibita celebrated Vienna’s success in nurturing entrepreneurial spirit. She shared personal story of her own children — Vienna alumni — who ventured into music, baking, and agribusiness during and after their studies. “These ventures didn’t just ease pocket money pressure — they laid foundations for financial independence and innovation,” she said.
A Call to Embrace the Future
In her concluding remarks, Prof. Chibita offered words of encouragement to the graduates: “You now step into the future — a world full of challenges and opportunities. But you’re not stepping out empty-handed. With your Cambridge credentials, the values instilled in you, and the confidence you’ve built, you’re ready to lead, serve, and succeed.”
She urged them to remain grounded, value service above self, and carry forward the legacy of Vienna College Namugongo: “This may be the end of one chapter, but it’s just the beginning of your journey as global citizens shaped by knowledge, discipline, and integrity.”
