An American tourist has sadly lost his life in a severe motor vehicle accident on the Buhoma-Butogota-Kanungu road in Kanungu district on January 27, 2025. He was part of a group of tourists returning from an exhilarating gorilla tracking experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

The tragic incident occurred around 7:00 am in Kakureiju village, involving a Toyota Land Cruiser with the registration number UAM 271U, which reportedly failed to brake while navigating a sharp turn. This led to the immediate death of Shuldman Harrison Evan, a 40-year-old from New York, USA.

Three other individuals were injured in the crash: Zachary Avayou, 39, from Pennsylvania; Jeremy Frederick Wright, 25, from California; and their driver, 33-year-old Alpha Dadaire.

Michael Kananura, the Community Liaison Officer from the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, stated that the vehicle lost control and rolled multiple times before coming to rest at Kyeshero Bridge.

The injured were quickly transported to Bwindi Hospital, while the deceased was also taken there. The vehicle has been towed and is currently secured at Kihihi Police Station for inspection and further investigation.
