Kampala, Uganda- APA Insurance Uganda, in partnership with Hollard Health, has launched an innovative international health insurance solution — APA International Health. This new offering seamlessly integrates cutting-edge technology with a personalised approach, empowering members to proactively manage their health.

By providing accessible information and intuitive tools, the solution enables users to make informed decisions about their health and well-being with confidence and ease. The launch marks a significant step forward in health management, promising enhanced healthcare experiences and improved outcomes for individuals, families, SMEs, and corporates.

Specifically developed for a discerning market, APA International Health emphasises preventive care and wellness. It offers comprehensive support, accessible information, and high-quality care as key differentiators. This digitally enabled service includes the HealthMov wellness app, which allows members to monitor and manage their health on their own terms. The app encourages positive behavioural changes and rewards members for healthy living — all from the convenience of their smartphones.

Depending on the chosen plan, coverage areas include Africa, India, Europe, and worldwide, with five comprehensive plans to choose from. The health insurance solution is designed to improve healthcare quality by integrating wellness incentives that reduce healthcare costs and improve overall health. By encouraging proactive health management, APA Insurance and Hollard Health aim to foster a healthier, more empowered community.

“The primary aim is to encourage healthier living among members, which in turn reduces healthcare costs and improves overall health outcomes,” said Ashok Shah, Group CEO of Apollo Investments Limited. “With APA and Hollard Health’s combined expertise, innovative solutions, and unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction, we are setting a new standard for healthcare coverage in the region.”

Uganda has the second-youngest population in the world, with over three-quarters (78%) of its citizens under the age of 35*. This youthful demographic is especially receptive to digitally driven health insurance solutions. Another key health trend is the shift from communicable diseases to non-communicable diseases, often linked to lifestyle choices. In this context, unique healthcare solutions that reward healthy living can help employers manage employee health for better business and personal outcomes.

Tobe Hope, Chief Executive of Hollard Health, said: “Because we know Africa’s demands are unique, we are committed to helping the continent thrive by offering cost-effective health insurance tailored to its diverse needs. With a mission to make quality healthcare accessible to all, we empower people to take charge of their health with easy-to-understand information and smart tools, helping them make the best choices for their health and well-being — now and in the future.”

APA and Hollard Health are redefining healthcare with a modular product design that lets members cherry-pick benefits to suit their needs, backed by generous limits of up to UGX 36 billion. The distribution model is agent-friendly, enabling sales through brokers and agents, while service delivery is reinforced by Henner, a trusted third-party administrator known for reliability and client satisfaction.

At the heart of the offering is the HealthMov app, a smart health platform that goes beyond traditional insurance by helping members actively manage their well-being. Using advanced technology, the app tracks heart rate, breathing, stress levels, and BMI through facial and movement scans. It then provides personalised feedback, lifestyle guidance, wellness rewards, and access to features such as health monitoring, goal tracking, educational resources, and behavioural insights.

“The HealthMov app is so intuitive, it puts a virtual doctor, personal trainer, health coach, and mentor in every member’s pocket,” said Manan Desai, CEO of APA Uganda.

The app also offers telehealth consultations and access to second medical opinions, ensuring timely, convenient, and informed healthcare decisions — anytime, anywhere.

In November 2023, Apollo Investments Limited, the parent company of APA Insurance, entered into a strategic partnership with Hollard International. The collaboration aims to unlock new business opportunities across the African continent for both insurers.

“We believe that collaboration is key to driving meaningful change in the healthcare landscape,” added Shah. “APA Insurance and Hollard Health are dedicated to empowering individuals to lead healthier lives and access quality healthcare when they need it most. With cost-effective plans, comprehensive coverage, access to high-quality medical services, and an efficient claims processing system, our offerings are specifically designed to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the East Africa region — today and into the future.”
