The Bishop of Mityana Diocese, Church of Uganda, Rt. Rev. Dr. James Bukomeko Salongo, has urged Christians to pray for their country so that it can overcome existing challenges such as corruption and entrenched poverty, among others, which continue to hinder development.

Bishop Bukomeko made the remarks on 18 July 2026 while presiding as the main celebrant during the annual thanksgiving fellowship of the Mityana Diocese Diaspora Christian Fraternity, held at Mengo Senior School Chapel.

The event brought together more than 300 diaspora Christians residing in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area. They also conducted a fundraising drive for their development projects, during which more than UGX 51 million was raised.

During his homily, Bishop Bukomeko commended the unwavering support of the Christian faithful, noting that it has enabled the diocese to establish several high-value infrastructure projects, including the tallest commercial complex in Mityana Municipality, guest houses, and other income-generating ventures.

He urged the congregation to continue praying for their country and the government, asking God to grant national leaders the wisdom to make sound and responsible political decisions.

The Diaspora Chairperson, Isaac Kateyanga, appreciated Bishop Bukomeko for finding time to visit Christians living outside the diocese, saying his presence had strengthened both their spiritual growth and their commitment to participating in economic empowerment programmes aimed at improving household incomes.

The Diocese Communication Officer, who also serves as the Diaspora Patron, Rev. Agnes Ntale Nalongo, said this marked the fraternity’s fourth year of fellowship and celebration of the many achievements attained by members originating from Mityana Diocese.

She thanked all the stakeholders who attended the event and contributed funds towards the group’s upcoming home-based income-generating projects.

“Ever since we launched these fellowship gatherings four years ago, we have mobilised resources to construct several high-impact projects, which we believe will enable the diocese to become a self-sustaining institution capable of meeting its own funding obligations,” Rev. Ntale said.
