CRJE (East Africa) ltd held its first vocational skills competition in Kampala capital city Uganda on Thursday aim at strengthen local talent and improving skills of staff.
The one-day competition was held in Kampala at the NSSF pension towers project site in order to strengthen local talent training, improve construction professional skills and enhance Sino-Ugandan cooperation in engineering development.
Liu Qiang, the General Manager of CRJE (East Africa) limited during an interview said that Uganda employees competed on site to showcase professional capabilities and interpret the spirit of craftsmanship with solid practical skills.
“The competition was closely combined with actual construction work, including two major sections: theoretical written test and practical operation competition, covering bricklaying and formwork installation,” he said.
Liu said that the theoretical assessment focused on safety regulations, construction procedures and quality management standards. “In the practical competition, judges strictly evaluated verticality, flatness, construction details and overall appearance, comprehensively examining participants’ professional competence,” Liu said.

During the event contestants were fully engaged and operated in standardized procedures. Every construction step was completed rigorously and meticulously.
According to Liu, the judging team composed of Chinese technical and management staff conducted on-site measurement and fair scoring, ensuring the competition was standardized, open and impartial. Excellent players were awarded with certificates and prizes after the competition.
“The skill competition aims to promote learning and improvement through contests. It effectively improved the professional ability of local staff, strengthened their awareness of safety, quality and standardized construction, and further advanced the localization talent team building of overseas projects,’’ Liu said.
CRJE (EAST AFRICA) LTD plans to regularly carry out skill competitions and on-the-job training activities, continuously optimize the local talent training system and contribute solid strength to the high-quality development of overseas construction projects.
