The Kampala Metropolitan Police have made significant strides in an aggravated robbery investigation that took place last month in Kakeka Zone, Rubaga Division, where an accountant was violently robbed of UGX 242 million in broad daylight.

According to a press statement issued by Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incident occurred on August, 22 2025, when a group of armed thugs, riding five motorcycles and wielding pangas, intercepted Kisitu Ausi, an accountant with Give and Take Hardware, as he was transporting company funds to a bank.

Despite the violent nature of the robbery, both Kisitu and his motorcycle rider escaped unharmed.

Swift police action, aided by CCTV footage and other intelligence leads, led to the arrest of eight suspects, several of whom have already been charged in connection with the crime. Those currently in custody include: Bakunda Steven alias Kevin; Atwine Robert Kiiza alias Mzee Lubuto; Andebuni Brian alias Junior Black; Musuza Raymond alias Caesar; Ssali Andrew alias Ande Swag; Kanyerezi Stanley; Nsubuga Andrew; and Aboth Shivan Alecho, who is being charged as an accessory after the fact.

During follow-up operations, detectives recovered shs105 million, a motorcycle suspected to have been purchased using the stolen funds, and a black laptop bag containing vouchers and receipts from Give and Take Hardware.

The recovered items were positively identified by the victim.

The suspects are facing multiple charges including Aggravated Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, and Accessory After the Fact to a Felony.

Police investigations are still ongoing as efforts continue to locate additional suspects who remain at large.

The arrested individuals are scheduled to appear before the Mwanga II Chief Magistrate’s Court today, September ,11, 2025.

The police have invited media personnel to attend the court proceedings.

Police have commended the investigative teams for their prompt and thorough work and reassured the public of their commitment to cracking down on violent and organized crimes.

“We reassure the public that such violent crimes will be pursued to their full conclusion,” said Owoyesigyire.
