Uganda Police have arrested five people following reports of alleged robberies and assaults in Kilooza, Mukono Central Division.
The arrests came after videos and audio recordings circulated on social media, alleging that suspected scrap dealers were assaulting and robbing members of the public in the area.
“Following the circulation of videos and audio recordings on social media, Police conducted an intelligence-led operation to identify and apprehend the individuals allegedly involved,” said Luke
Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
Police said CCTV footage from Mukono Central Police Station was reviewed as part of the investigation, leading to the identification and arrest of the five suspects.
The suspects include four juveniles and one adult man. They remain in police custody as investigators establish their alleged involvement in the reported offences.
The operation is continuing, with police saying further updates will be provided as more information emerges.
Authorities have also commended members of the public for sharing information that could help law enforcement identify and tackle suspected criminal activity in their communities.
