The Ministry of Works and Transport has stepped up enforcement of road safety regulations by conducting a joint compliance operation with the Uganda Police Force at the Kisenyi Bus Terminal.

Led by the Commissioner for Transport Regulation and Safety, Mr. Winstone Katushabe, the exercise focuses on ensuring that public service buses meet all mandatory transport and safety requirements before operating.During the operation, enforcement teams are inspecting drivers’ licences and other documentation, assessing vehicle roadworthiness, verifying operator licences, and checking compliance with passenger safety standards.

According to the ministry, the exercise forms part of an ongoing nationwide campaign to enforce transport regulations and eliminate unsafe public service vehicles from Uganda’s roads.

Officials said the inspections are intended to promote safer travel, improve compliance within the public transport sector, and protect passengers by ensuring that only roadworthy and legally compliant buses provide transport services.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to working with law enforcement agencies to uphold road safety standards and urged all transport operators to comply with the law to avoid penalties and contribute to safer roads.
