Hundreds of people turned up for free medical services during the Kabaka’s Foundation’s Tubeere Balamu Health Camp held in Kayunga District.

Tubeere Balamu is an initiative implemented through the Kabaka’s Foundation to provide free medical services across Buganda’s 18 counties.

The two-day health camp, held at Kangulumira Health Centre and Kayunga Hospital from September 15 to 17, was officially launched by Prince Khalifan Kakungulu on behalf of His Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.

During the outreach, residents received a range of free services, including medical screening, eye and dental care, HIV testing, screening and management of non-communicable diseases, as well as blood donation. The outreach was supported by International Paramedical and Nursing Schools–Maya, I&M Bank Uganda and Diamond Trust Bank (DTB).

In his message, the Kabaka emphasised the need to improve the welfare of health workers, noting that many specialists have left the country for better-paying jobs abroad.

“We have lost many people in our medical facilities due to lack of enough specialists to handle their cases. Many of the specialists left the country for better pay abroad,” the Kabaka said.

Dr Grace Stephen Sseruyange, Director of International Paramedical and Nursing Schools–Maya, commended the Kabaka’s Foundation and private-sector partners for organising free medical camps, saying the Buganda Kingdom continues to prioritise health.

He said their participation was aimed at helping people in the Kingdom access essential medical services at no cost.
“Our team has worked on hundreds of people here for different ailments, including dental services, testing, malaria screening, among others,” Sseruyange said.

Sseruyange, who is also the First Deputy Ssebwana, urged people in the medical profession to support the initiative, saying it is aimed at improving access to healthcare across the Kingdom.

Retired Bishop Henry Katumba, Vice Chairperson of the Kabaka’s Foundation, said Tubeere Balamu is an initiative of the Kabaka implemented through the Kabaka’s Foundation to deliver free medical services across Buganda’s 18 counties.
