The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party on Thursday submitted more than two million signatures to the Electoral Commission (EC), fulfilling a key legal requirement for the nomination of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the party’s flagbearer in the upcoming 2026 presidential elections.
The symbolic handover was led by NRM Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, who was accompanied by senior party officials from the NRM Secretariat in a high-profile procession to the EC offices.
Speaking after the submission, Todwong said the sheer volume of signatures collected from all regions of the country was a clear indication of President Museveni’s continued popularity and the party’s nationwide support.
“These signatures reflect the confidence Ugandans have in the leadership of President Museveni and the NRM. We are confident this support will translate into a landslide victory—not only for the President but for all NRM candidates across the country,” Todwong stated.
