Uganda’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, has pledged to strengthen support for the Uganda Police Force following his first familiarization visit to the Police Headquarters in Naguru.
The minister was received on Tuesday by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abas Byakagaba, before touring several key operational units, including the Directorate of ICT, the Field Force Unit (FFU), the Directorate of Forensic Services, the ICT National Command and Control Centre, the Counter-Terrorism Directorate, and newly constructed accommodation blocks.

Addressing the Uganda Police Force’s top leadership after the tour, Kamuntu praised the institution’s ongoing efforts and stressed the importance of investing in security agencies to meet the country’s safety needs.
“We came, we saw, and we have appreciated. I am pleased with what I have seen in the Uganda Police Force. If the Force is well-equipped, well-trained, and adequately facilitated, it can achieve the security aspirations of this country,” he said.
The minister also pledged his full support to the force, saying the government would continue prioritising crime prevention, improving officers’ welfare, and enhancing career progression through timely promotions.

Police Chief Abas Byakagaba welcomed the minister’s visit, describing it as an important opportunity to brief him on the force’s operations and future priorities.
According to Byakagaba, the discussions focused on the current state of the Uganda Police Force, its strategic priorities, operational challenges, and measures being implemented to improve service delivery and strengthen national security.

The visit forms part of Prof. Kamuntu’s familiarisation engagements following his appointment as Minister of Internal Affairs, as he meets institutions under the ministry to assess their operations and identify areas requiring government support.
