National Unity Platform (NUP)’s Dr. Kimark Hamidu has been confirmed as the LC5 chairperson of Bugweri District after his election rival, Ibrahim Ndoga, withdrew a petition challenging his victory.
Ndoga informed the presiding judge Jeanne Rwakakooko that he had decided to withdraw the petition in the interest of maintaining peace and harmony in Bugweri District.
Through his lawyer, Kadara Wahid, Ndoga told court that he had met with elders in the district and, after consultations, agreed to withdraw the petition for the good of the district.
Kimark through his lawyer Mutamba Benna had asked court to order Ndoga to pay the costs incurred in defending the petition. However, the court rejected the request, noting that Kimark had not filed a response to the petition.
The withdrawal clears the way for Dr. Kimark to take up the district chairperson position following his decisive victory in the election.
Kimark garnered 18,188 votes to defeat his opponents and secure the Bugweri District LC5 chairperson seat.
