GULU CITY: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, has urged party leaders in the Acholi sub-region to prioritise the upcoming Local Council I (LC I) and Women Council elections, describing them as the foundation of leadership and a key pillar in strengthening the party’s grassroots structures.

Speaking during a high-level mobilisation meeting at Acholi Inn in Gulu City, Todwong addressed NRM Members of Parliament, district party chairpersons, and other party leaders from across the Acholi sub-region as part of the party’s nationwide mobilisation campaign ahead of the elections.

He stressed that leadership in Uganda begins at the village level, calling on party leaders to intensify mobilisation efforts and ensure overwhelming support for NRM candidates.

“The foundation of leadership in this country starts with the LC I chairperson. These elections are, therefore, critical to strengthening our party structures and consolidating the gains of the NRM at the grassroots,” Todwong said.

He encouraged party leaders to work closely with local communities to ensure high voter turnout and successful participation in both the Women Council elections scheduled for July 23 and the LC I elections set for July 28.

The Gulu meeting is part of the NRM Secretariat’s nationwide mobilisation drive aimed at popularising the party’s electoral roadmap, reinforcing grassroots structures, and preparing members for the forthcoming elections.

Last Friday, Rt. Hon. Todwong flagged off teams from the NRM Secretariat to fan out across all regions of the country to engage party leaders and members, promote the electoral roadmap, and rally support for NRM candidates in the upcoming grassroots polls.
