KASESE– An incident involving lions escaping from Queen Elizabeth National Park in Kasese and killing livestock has raised concerns about the ongoing human-wildlife conflict.
The incident occurred on 26th September 2025 at approximately 03:00 hrs in Mobuku Irrigation Scheme, Phase II Cell, Scheme Parish, Nyamwamba Division, Kasese Municipality, in Kasese District.
It is alleged that on 26/09/2025 at around 03:00 hrs, the lions attcked the kraal of a 60 year old Mzee Rusanganwa Paul a resident of Kyondo Cell, Rukooki Ward, Nyamwamba Division, Kasese Municipality,and killed three of his cows
Nelson Tumushime, Superintendent of Police (SP) Spokesperson, Kasese Police says that Police, together with officials from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), based in Katunguru, responded promptly to manage the situation.
A team from UWA is currently on the ground and is working on a way forward to determine how the affected farmer can be compensated.
Police has Cautioned all residents to avoid walking alone, especially during early morning or late evening hours, and Securing livestock properly by keeping them in enclosed structures at night.
